1981/1982: Founding of ROGESA and ZKS

Roheisengesellschaft Saar mbH (ROGESA) was founded to produce competitive hot metal. ROGESA produces exclusively for the Dillinger Hütte and Saarstahl steel plants.

Zentralkokerei Saar GmbH (ZKS) was founded a short time later. The coke it produces is used solely in the blast furnaces of ROGESA. A comprehensive refurbishment of ZKS is currently underway and will be completed in 2012.

1989: Founding of DHS

Under the umbrella of the DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG financial holding, the two Saarland-based steel companies Dillinger Hütte and Saarstahl were combined.

1993: Bankruptcy proceedings for Saarstahl AG

As of 1994, Saarstahl was no longer a part of the DHS Group.

2001: Saarland’s “steelworks solution”
Founding of Montan-Stiftung-Saar and SHS - Struktur-Holding-Stahl
The Supervisory Boards of Dillinger Hütte and Saarstahl agree in their meetings to found a mutual foundation as part of a “steelworks solution” (German = “Hüttenlösung”). Saarstahl’s Supervisory Board approved the transfer of shares held by Saarland (26.8%) and Saarstahl Treuhand GmbH (48.1%) to a partnership limited by shares (KGaA), founded under the working title of “SHS - Struktur-Holding Stahl”. The bankruptcy proceedings for Saarstahl were concluded.

2008: New shareholder structure for DHS
SHS - Struktur-Holding-Stahl (wholly owned subsidiary of Montan-Stiftung-Saar) henceforth holds 26.17% of the capital of DHS, Saarstahl holds an unchanged 33.75%, ArcelorMittal holds 30.08% (previously: 51.25%) and DHS – Dillinger Hütte Saarstahl AG itself holds 10% of its own shares.
The new shareholder structure secures and strengthens the Saar as a location for the steel industry.

2010: Stahl-Holding-Saar takes up active tasks
SHS - Stahl-Holding-Stahl (formerly known as SHS - Struktur-Holding-Saar) became an operational management holding company that has taken on active duties for Saarland’s steel industry.
